The 11th annual Buddy Walk is scheduled for Oct. 7 in Richland.

The one-mile walk, put on by the Down Syndrome Association of the Mid-Columbia, aims to promote awareness, acceptance and inclusion. It also raises money for the association, which offers programs such as lecture series, workshops and monthly events and groups for kids, siblings, parents and friends.

The walk starts at 10:30 a.m. at Howard Amon Park. On-site registration opens at 10 a.m.

Pre-registration also is available at dsamc.donordrive.org or from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at Shelby’s Floral in Kennewick.

Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for kids age 12 and younger. People with Down syndrome may participate for free. Registration includes the walk, a T-shirt and a lunch ticket.

The local Buddy Walk is one of the best-attended in Washington and Oregon, a news release said. Last year’s event raised more than $52,000.
