Walla Walla specialist to help prepare for hurricane Irma landfall

A Mid-Columbia employee of the Army Corps of Engineers deployed on Wednesday to Georgia to help prepare for hurricane Irma’s anticipated landfall in Florida.

Brigida Sanchez, a public affairs specialist in the Corps’ Walla Walla District, is an Army veteran with broadcast and media-relations experience. Her family lives near Ocala, Fla.

The Corps serves as the nation’s lead agency to respond to disasters with public works and engineering support and coordinates long-term infrastructure recovery.
