No 9/11 ceremony this year, but you can visit the Southridge memorial
People are encouraged to visit the 9-11 memorial at the Southridge Sports and Events complex in Kennewick on the 16th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
However, no formal program is planned this year, according to the city of Kennewick.
“We encourage our citizens to come and visit the memorial to remember the tragic events of September 11th and those who sacrificed their lives and continue to do so for our safety, security and freedom,” the city said in a statement.
A twisted piece of steel from the World Trade Center in New York City was trucked to the Tri-Cities and installed by Lampson International at the Southridge complex in 2011. The metal is topped with the U.S. flag.
