The girl who was badly burned in a July 31 fire in Benton City has died.

Erika Patricia Hernandez Carillo, 7, died Aug. 18, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office reported Erika’s death to the sheriff’s department.

Sheriff Jerry Hatcher also wrote in a news release that the fire started because of an electrical surge. The release states that a trailer accidentally hit an electrical junction box that provided power to the home, causing the surge that started the fire.

There were no immediate updates on the condition of Sergio Hernandez, Erika’s father, or Hernandez’s 10-year-old son. Both were listed in critical condition Aug. 4.
