Blaze damages 23rd Avenue home in Kennewick Tuesday afternoon
A fire damaged a home on East 23rd Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to reports of heavy black smoke coming from the rear of the home at 3:48 p.m., said Tracy Baker, Benton County Fire District 1’s public information officer.
Kennewick Fire Department arrived first to find the rear deck and attic burning. The initial blaze was extinguished in about 15 minutes. They are continuing to monitor the home for hot spots.
Along with Benton County Fire District 1 and Kennewick Fire, Richland and Pasco fire departments responded.
One dog was rescued from the home, and fire officials were looking for one of two cats, Kennewick police and Baker said.
The residents were not home when the fire started, and none of the firefighters were injured with fighting the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
