The Franklin County elections office is holding a special three-day filing period for candidates to fill the Port of Pasco Commission post held by Ron Reimann.

Reimann died July 30 in a vehicle accident near his Franklin County farm. He had filed to run for re-election to the six-year post this year and was unopposed.

Candidates for Port Commissioner District 1 may file in person during regular business hours Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, at the Franklin County Courthouse, 1016 N. Fourth Ave., Pasco.

Online filings will be accepted from 9 a.m. Wednesday to 4 p.m. Friday, at co.franklin.wa.us/elections. Mail-in filings must be received by Aug. 11.

Candidates must live in the port commissioner district and be registered to vote. The filing fee for the post, which pays $9,600 a year, is $96. Candidates will appear on the Nov. 7 general election ballot.

The three-member elected board of commissioners is the governing body for the port.

The multifaceted agency administers the Tri-City Airport, the Big Pasco Industrial Center, the Pasco Processing Center and a container barge terminal on the Columbia River as well as other economic development initiatives. Commissioner duties include planning, goal setting, budgeting and hiring and evaluating the port’s executive director.
