A change in construction techniques has reopened the comment period for the Army Corps of Engineer’s revised draft finding of no significant impact for Richland’s planned Duportail bridge.

The Corps’ Walla Walla District will accept comment on the bridge project until Aug. 21 at NEPANWW@usace.army.mil. Include “Duportail Street Bridge” in the subject line or send comments to: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, Attn: Duportail Street Bridge Project, 201 N. Third Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362.

The revision stems from a change in how the $38 million bridge over the Yakima River will be built. Instead of constructing a temporary work bridge, officials plan to use a crane positioned on a temporary gravel work pad in the river.

The bridge will link downtown Richland to the Queensgate area.
