Tri-City father, daughter in critical condition after crash
A Richland student and her father are in critical condition after an Aug. 1 collision near Klamath Falls.
Fundraising efforts for Salvador Talavera and his daughter, Kahleah, a fourth-grader at Lewis and Clark, are in full swing.
Details about the crash remain sketchy. Oregon State Police officials didn’t provide information about the crash that sent both Salvador and Kahleah to a Portland hospital.
Salvador’s sister, Veronica Talavera Ramos, reported they were heading back from a trip to visit family in Fresno when they were involved in a head-on collision on Highway 97 near Klamath Falls.
Liz Crider, the principal of Lewis and Clark Elementary School, said the school’s staff is saddened by the news of the family’s car accident. They arranged to have a Goodwill donation trailer available at the school, located at 415 Jadwin Avenue, between Aug. 21 and 24. All proceeds go to help the family.
People can donate clothing, bedding, books, shoes, housewares, accessories and small electrical items, Crider said.
The Richland School District shared the message on its Facebook page, drawing comments from Salvador’s coworkers at Avenue5 Residential and community members.
“Sal is truly the most giving person and has the biggest heart,” coworker Chelsea Ramirez said. “We’re all heartbroken.”
The Junior Bombers Youth Football and Cheer shared the district’s post, asking people to pray for the family.
Two campaigns on GoFundMe and YouCaring campaign are raising money for the family. The GoFundMe campaign can be found at bit.ly/TalaveraGoFundMe, the YouCaring campaign can be found at bit.ly/TalaveraYouCaring.
