Heat, smoke force Kennewick to cancel Sunset at Southridge
The Friday edition of Kennewick’s weekly Sunset at Southridge gathering has been canceled because it’s too hot and smoky outside.
The city parks department is working to schedule a make-up for the canceled event.
Sunset at Southridge is a summer-long Friday evening gathering of food vendors and entertainers at the Carousel of Dreams.
Looking ahead, the Aug. 11 program will feature Jack Rothwell.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory through Friday evening for the region due to a high pressure system over the Pacific Northwest. Friday’s forecast calls for temperatures to reach 106.
In addition, the region is under an air quality alert due to wildfires in the Northwest region.
