Cascade wants to raise prices charged to natural gas customers

Cascade Natural Gas is proposing a price increase that would boost costs for residential users by an average of $2.12 a month.

Cascade on Monday filed a request to allow the higher charges with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission.

The proposed increase is driven by costs to replace pipelines to make them safer and more reliable and by rising costs to operate and maintain the system, Cascade said.

The proposed increase would raise $5.9 million in additional annual revenue, which is a 2.7 percent increase overall.

Cascade last asked for a price increase in December 2015. The commission approved a 1.6 percent overall increase.
