Boaters need to watch out for an unusually large amount of floating wood debris on the Columbia River between the McNary and John Day dams.

High water in streams and tributaries has carried debris, ranging from twigs to logs, into the Columbia River, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.

It has accumulated upriver from the McNary Dam.

The Corps planned to start spill operations as needed Wednesday at McNary to float the debris away from the powerhouse.
