Youth suicide prevention walk scheduled for Richland
An event in Richland is aimed at raising people’s awareness of youth suicide.
Hanford and Richland high schools are hosting the first Strides to End Teen Suicide Walk starting at 6 p.m. Thursday at Fran Rish Stadium. The event is open to the public.
The event is part of week of student activities aimed at raising awareness about teen suicide.
Richland High School Counselor Chandra Markel, Mark Lee from the Youth Suicide Prevention Program of Benton/Franklin County, and Miss Tri-Cities Outstanding Teen Abby Faulk are expected to speak at the event.
Other community resources are available.
“We just want as many people as we can get to come out and show their support,” Markel said. “The (mission of the) walk is three-fold — awareness, prevention and remembrance. Walkers will be able to pin a paper to their shirt to remember someone they lost to suicide.”
For more information about the event, contact Markel at 509-430-4417.
