The holiday season brings calendars to mind and this year buying one for 2017 can help dogs and cats at the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter.

The Shelter Animal Advocates, Volunteers, and Educators (SAAVE) created the calendar Cops and Pups 2017 with the help of the Pasco Police Department, and features photos of officers and shelter dogs, according to Sgt. Scott Warren.

The group asks people to email them requests at copsandpups@hotmail.com to purchase the calendar, which costs $20 each and are available on Nov. 15.

Sales raise funds for the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter and Mikey’s Chance, a group dedicated to finding homes for shelter dogs, according to SAAVE.

Members of SAAVE are involved at the shelter when they take dogs for walks. The connection led to the use of shelter dogs for the calendar.

In addition to raising funds, the calendar is to raise awareness of pet adoption. The group asks people to adopt pets from the shelter rather than purchase one from a retailer.

The Pasco police were happy to help, said Warren. A few officers posed for the pictures with the dogs for the calendar.
