Volunteers needed for Bateman Island cleanup Saturday

Bateman Island, the popular hiking and bird-watching destination in the Columbia River, is getting a facelift this weekend.

The Washington State University Tri-Cities Environmental Club and other groups will clean up from 9 a.m. to noon, Nov. 12. Volunteers will meet at Wye Park, 1600 Columbia Park Trail, Richland.

Volunteers are advised to bring gloves, snacks and a refillable water bottle, and to be prepared for cold, rain and wind.

The city of Richland will provide bags and buckets to gather trash.
