Blue Mountain fire restrictions eased for fall

Some of the fire restrictions on the Umatilla and Wallowa-Whitman national forests have been lifted with the start of fall.

Restrictions on recreational chainsaw use, smoking and off-road travel have been lifted.

However, seasonal campfire restrictions remain in place until Oct. 31, except in wilderness areas and certain developed recreation sites.

Seasonal campfire restrictions limit fires and the use of charcoal briquettes to pits or commercial rings cleared of flammable material to a radius of three feet. Users must have a shovel and a gallon of water ready.
