Gusty winds tether Prosser balloon rally
The winds were a little blustery for a flight Friday morning during the 27th Great Prosser Balloon Rally but pilots still inflated their balloons and flew on tethers.
About 18 balloons will be on hand for the event, which runs Sept. 23-25. Rides aren’t available, but the public is invited to watch the balloons launch at sunrise — around 6:45 a.m. — each day at the Prosser Airport, 111 Nunn Road, depending on the weather.
The popular Night Glow is scheduled at dusk Sept. 24 at Art Fiker Stadium, 1500 Paterson Road. The annual Harvest Festival in downtown Prosser also runs during the rally.
Dozens of vendors and artists will take part, selling handcrafted items. Food also will be sold, kids’ activities are planned and musical and dance acts will take the stage throughout the weekend.
The Caren Mercer-Andreasen Street Painting Festival is Sept. 24-25 in downtown, with chalk artists of all ages beautifying the streets.
