Washington reports 435 new COVID-19 cases, 14 deaths Tuesday
The Washington State Department of Health on Tuesday reported 435 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 14 deaths.
Pierce County reported 32 new cases and one new death Tuesday. Pierce County had a total of 91 deaths likely caused by COVID-19 as of Monday.
Statewide totals from the illness caused by the coronavirus are at 37,420 cases and 1,384 deaths, up from 36,985 cases and 1,370 deaths on Monday.
Twenty-six people with confirmed COVID-19 cases were admitted to Washington state hospitals on June 29, the most recent date with complete data. March 23 saw 89 admittances, the highest number to date during the pandemic.
Washington state has conducted 635,524 coronavirus tests, with 5.9 percent coming back positive. The test numbers reflect only polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, which are given to patients while the virus is presumably still active in the body.
King County continues to have the highest numbers in Washington, with 11,182 cases and 626 deaths. Snohomish County has the second highest number of deaths at 176. Yakima County has the second highest number of cases at 7,696.
Washington’s least populous county, Garfield, remains the only one without a case. Five other counties are reporting fewer than 10 cases each.
There have been more than 2.9 million confirmed coronavirus cases and 131,268 deaths from the virus in the United States as of Tuesday, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than 542,000 people have died from the disease worldwide.
