Tri-City jobs: Workers needed to fill orders and stock shelves during the coronavirus pandemic

The Mid-Columbia job market has taken a hit in recent weeks.

Many companies have cut staff permanently or furloughed employees as the result of government restrictions because of the coronavirus, which causes COVID-19 respiratory disease.

But other companies are being swamped by demand.

So who is hiring?

Here is a developing list of companies that have said on social media they need workers.

J.R. Simplot Company is hiring for truck drivers, mechanics, equipment operators, technicians and intern field operations. There are jobs listed in Pasco and Burbank. careers.simplot.com

Taco Bell has team member, shift lead and manager positions available in the Tri-Cities restaurants. jobs.tacobell.com

Fred Meyer is hiring workers nationwide with immediate positions available “to help keep our stores stocked with fresh, affordable food and essentials.” Fred Meyer has stores in Kennewick and Richland.

Safeway and Albertsons announced on their Facebook pages and in emails to shoppers that the stores are hiring for immediate openings. Apply at the Pasco, Kennewick and Richland locations — “just don’t offer to shake hands so we can maintain social distancing” — or online.

Amazon has 100,000 new full- and part-time positions nationwide in fulfillment centers and its delivery network.

The Walmart Distribution Center in Grandview is hiring “to support our communities,” with both temporary and permanent positions available. Text “jobs” to 240240 to get started, or visit careers.walmart.com.

7-Eleven announced plans for the company and its independent franchised business owners to hire up to 20,000 new store associates to “meet the increased demand for products and services.” careers.7-eleven.com
