Mid-Columbia Libraries are planning to close Tuesday through April 24 to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, it announced Monday afternoon.

During the closure, library customers should keep books and materials currently checked out until the libraries reopen.

All due dates are being extended until April 27, and the library does not want items returned during the closure.

The library phone service also will be suspended.

Kyle Cox, chief librarian, said the library understands the closure will be a hardship, especially for families, with children.

“I encourage all those who can to access our digital collection of more than 100,000 eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagasines and streaming video,” he said.

Mid-Columbia Libraries does not include the Richland Public Library, but does include libraries in Kennewick, Pasco, West Richland, Prosser, Connell, Benton City, Othello and some other small towns.

There also will be no bookmobile service.
