Mental illness, faith workshop to be held Oct. 9 in Richland

A nonprofit Richland agency is putting on an upcoming workshop aimed at educating the faith community on mental illness.

The workshop, put on by Emmaus Counseling Center, is intended to get faith-based organizations to recognize their role in the battle against mental illness and to provide information on community resources.

Emmaus is partnering with Lourdes Counseling Center, the National Alliance for Mental Illness, Tri-Cities Bridge Building Coalition and Three Rivers Community Foundation.

Pastors, church and congregational leaders, and others involved in faith-based organizations are encouraged to join. The event is open to the public.

It will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Richland Baptist Church on George Washington Way. The cost is $20 per person, which includes lunch and materials for the workshop.

The registration deadline is at noon Oct. 7. To register, go to www.theemmauscenter.com. Call 509-946-1430 for more information.
