Popular supplement linked to national salmonella outbreak. 1 sickened in Tri-Cities

A supplement intended to be healthy has been recalled after 45 people were infected with Salmonella food poisoning, including one person in the Tri-Cities area.

A Benton County resident was one of 12 known to be hospitalized in the outbreak linked to Live it Up Super Greens supplement powders.

Two weeks ago its manufacturer notified the Food and Drug Administration that it was voluntarily recalling certain batches of the powders, including the original and wild berry flavors with expiration dates from August 2026 to January 2028.

The powder was made with greens, including wheatgrass, barley grass, spirulina, alfalfa, broccoli, nopal cactus, spinach and kale.

The product was primarily sold online at the Live it Up company website and other online sites, including Amazon, Walmart and eBay, according to the FDA.

Anyone with the recalled product should throw it away and sanitize any surfaces or containers that the product touched with hot soapy water or in the dishwasher, according to the FDA.

Severe symptoms of Salmonella should be reported right away to a health care provider.

Severe symptoms include diarrhea for more than three days without improvement; diarrhea and a fever higher than 102; bloody diarrhea; not keeping liquids down due to vomiting; or dehydration signs such as a dry mouth and throat or feeling dizzy when standing up, according to the Washington state Department of Health.
