Downtown Kennewick business reopens after fire at neighboring restaurant

Earth Spirit Mystical Boutique reopened at 113 W. Kennewick Ave. in downtown Kennewick on July 5.

The reopening comes more than three months after a St Patrick’s Day fire in a neighboring restaurant destroyed its inventory, supplies and equipment.

Firefighters rescued five kittens after they escaped the worst of the El Tequilas restaurant fire while hiding in the attic space. The soot covered and water soaked kittens were taken in by the Tri-City Animal Shelter, and were fostered at the Tri-City Kitty Rescue.

Earth Spirit carries unique gifts, crystal, books, candles and crafts. It also hosts workshops and classes.

Owner Erin Sagadin and the property owners spent the intervening months repairing the space in preparation to reopen.

“It’s been a hard last few months, but I am beyond grateful to everyone who has stuck with us and supported us through this closure and I can’t wait to share all the new and exciting things I’ve done in the shop!” Sagadin said.

A second business affected by the El Tequilas restaurant fire, Storytime Bookshop, owned by Lorelei Kennedy, moved to a new space in June. The restaurant has not reopened.
