Mercedes-AMG Plans 27 New Cars In A Push To Catch BMW M

BMW M Dominates Global Sales, But AMG Plans an EV Fightback

Mercedes-AMG is ready to hit the overdrive button. According to a report from Automotive News, the high-performance subbrand wants to achieve 200,000 global sales annually by 2030. This ambitious milestone represents a 38 percent jump over its 2025 deliveries of 145,000 vehicles. To get there, CEO Michael Schiebe confirmed that AMG will launch more than 27 cars over the next 36 months, covering multiple segments and body styles.

The rapid product expansion comes at a crucial time for the automaker. Recent data shows that BMW M dominates Mercedes-AMG in global sales, forcing the Affalterbach brand to rethink its competitive strategy. To reclaim dominance in the performance space, AMG is banking heavily on next-generation electric vehicle technology.

Advanced Electric Motors Meet a Reinforced V8 Powertrain

At the heart of this electric revolution is a groundbreaking new powertrain. The upcoming GT 4-Door Coupe features three highly advanced axial flux e-motors. Mercedes recently began manufacturing the motor that could change AMG EVs, which delivers immense power in an incredibly lightweight package. These specialized axial flux motors will remain exclusive to AMG models to maintain a distinct, high-performance emotional appeal.

While electricity represents the long-term future, internal combustion is not dead yet. AMG is actively reinforcing its gas-powered lineup by introducing a heavily revised V-8 engine in the second half of 2026. Recent spy shots of upcoming models like the Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 confirm that the brand is committed to satisfying traditional buyers who demand classic cylinder counts. By consolidating its engine variants from 10 to just 4, AMG will focus heavily on these optimized V-8 and six-cylinder powerplants.

The Lowdown on AMG's Ambitious Strategy

The global high-performance automotive landscape is growing increasingly crowded. Established players like Audi RS and Cadillac V-Series are constantly expanding their portfolios. Meanwhile, newcomers are aggressively pushing into the premium tier. A prime example is the stunning Genesis GT3 concept, which demonstrates how quickly South Korean rivals are moving into elite motorsport and enthusiast spaces.

To protect its market share, Mercedes-AMG needs to step up its game. Fortunately, its dual-track strategy of advanced electrification and refined combustion engines appears to be exactly what the brand needs. By focusing on striking exterior design, sharp driving dynamics, and emotional appeal, AMG seems to be on the right track to hit its 2030 goals.
