Chevrolet Corvette Beats Porsche And Toyota In 2026 Sports Car Ratings

Sports cars are impractical, expensive to buy and expensive to maintain. But judging these cars on these metrics alone is missing the point entirely. They are the aspirational beacons amongst the practical daily drivers that dominate our roads. A sports car needs to appeal to the heart before the head, it is more about how you get to point B rather than why.

They certainly aren't the primary mode of transport for most families, or even couples, but that just makes them that much more special when you do take them for a drive. But, while the fun-to-drive factor is all-important, reliability, and safety are also up there, and we picked the five best performing sports cars as tested by Consumer Reports for 2026.

The vehicles here represent the best of their breed, and through the rigorous and impartial testing methods employed by CR, we found the ones that offer the best mix of on-road performance, reliability, owner satisfaction and safety. Each metric is weighed differently, but the final tally is represented by CR's overall score, and we have arranged the cars here in ascending order.

5. BMW 2 Series | 83/100

  • Model Years: 2022-on
  • Base MSRP:$42,200
  • Road Test Score: 85/100
  • Predicted Reliability: 73/100
  • Predicted Owner Satisfaction: 78/100

The BMW 2 Series doesn't have a dedicated sports car platform like the other cars here, but it is based on the best sports sedan out there (the 3 Series), and that shows in its excellent handling characteristics and high road test score.

The base 230i trim can be had in RWD and AWD variants, and thanks to a set of rear seats and decent cargo space, it's perfectly capable of doubling as a daily driver. If you want more, the M240i is seriously rapid, and comes in at a reasonable $53,600 considering its performance.

4. Porsche Boxster | 83/100

  • Model Years: 2017-on
  • Base MSRP: $74,900
  • Road Test Score: 95/100
  • Predicted Reliability: 66/100
  • Predicted Owner Satisfaction: 72/100

If you want to experience what road testers mean when they say ‘telepathic responses' and ‘cornering brilliance' then the Porsche Boxster does it better than almost anything else out there. While the base MSRP has shot up steeply in recent years, nothing else really comes close if you want the best driver's car out there.

The flat-four engines may lack the aural brilliance of the pricey six-cylinder models, but they are very quick and not much will be able to keep them inside on a twisty mountain road. A slightly below-par predicted reliability score and pricing that keeps creeping upwards kept the Boxster from placing higher for 2026.

3. Subaru BRZ | 86/100

  • Model Years: 2022-on
  • Base MSRP: $35,860
  • Road Test Score: 89/100
  • Predicted Reliability: 69/100
  • Predicted Owner Satisfaction: 78/100

The BRZ tends to live in the shadow of its near identical Toyota GR 86 rival, but it scored higher in the road-testing section, placing it four points higher overall. Packing rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission and a revvy naturally aspirated engine, the BRZ is nothing like the turbocharged hot hatches it is often compared to, and while it may not have the most power, it is one of the most satisfying and affordable sports cars out there.

However, issues with the boxer motor have let both the BRZ and GR86 down in recent years, and the predicated reliability score has suffered as a result.

2. Toyota Supra | 86/100

  • Model Years: 2020-on
  • Base MSRP: $58,300
  • Road Test Score: 91/100
  • Predicted Reliability: 66/100
  • Predicted Owner Satisfaction: 75/100

You would naturally expect at least one Toyota model to appear in a list like this, and the Supra has certainly proven itself to be a solid and reliable sports car over the years. However, part of its appeal lies in the BMW-sourced engine, and the road test score is one of the highest of all the cars here.

The predicated reliability rating is equal lowest with the Porsche Boxster, but this is mostly due to early issues with the infotainment software and a handful of safety-related recalls which should not affect the newer models. While production has officially ended for the Supra, it is still available to order online while stocks last. As they say.

1. Chevrolet Corvette | 91/100

  • Model Years: 2020-on
  • Base MSRP: $70,000
  • Road Test Score: 97/100
  • Predicted Reliability: 68/100
  • Predicted Owner Satisfaction: 88/100

You can forget your fancy European and Japanese sports cars, when you add up all the figures, it is the American Corvette C8 that comes out on top. With a 97/100 road test score, the C8 proves that it is a superb driver's car and outperforms any similarly priced competitors by a country mile. Owner satisfaction is also higher than any other sports car here, and that's thanks to the great pricing, superb performance, and impressive daily usability that these cars offer.

You would need to spend close to twice the price of a base C8 before you matched its capabilities, and that also applies to the more powerful and pricier Corvettes out there, too. If there is one area that could do with improvement, it is in the reliability metric, as some owners have had issues with the brakes and the AC system.
