Overview
The 2026 Volvo EX90 electric midsize luxury SUV has three rows and leans heavily on the familiar XC90 shape, but it doesn't feel like a simple battery swap. The blanked-off front end gives away the electric powertrain, and the lineup now starts with a 329-hp single-motor rear-wheel-drive model before stepping up to a 449-hp twin-motor and a 670-hp twin-motor performance.
Volvo also gives the 2026 EX90 the kind of flagship character buyers expect at this price. Range reaches 305 miles in all-wheel-drive form, the cabin stays hushed even by EV standards, and the big portrait-style 14.5-inch touchscreen anchors a tech-heavy interior with Google-based software and wireless Apple CarPlay.
What's New for 2026
For 2026, the EX90 moves from 400-volt to 800-volt electrical architecture, a major change that improves charging capability. Volvo also adds a new central computer to address the software and technology problems that shaped the EX90's early reputation, and owners of 2025 models can visit a Volvo dealer for a free upgrade. The enhanced computing features now include a slippery road warning, a self-parking system, and an emergency system that can pull the vehicle over and call for assistance if the driver becomes incapacitated. The range now includes a new single motor entry model, while the dual-motor versions gain more output than before.
Exterior
The EX90 keeps Volvo's restrained design language intact. From a distance, it still looks closely related to the XC90, which is no bad thing, but the closed front grille makes it clear this is the electric flagship. It wears a clean, uncluttered shape that suits the brand's understated image, and that same restraint helps it avoid looking overwrought next to many other high-end EVs.
That simplicity also works in the EX90's favor on the road. The shape is long, tidy, and upscale without trying too hard, and the available air suspension helps back up the visual calm with a composed ride.
Interior
Inside, the EX90 follows the same minimalist theme. Most functions live in the large center touchscreen, which creates a clean and airy cabin but also means there are fewer physical controls than some drivers would like. Volvo's Google-based interface, built-in navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, and 5G connectivity help the tech package feel current, while the available Bowers & Wilkins audio system adds a proper luxury touch.
Volvo also keeps the cabin aligned with its sustainability message. Leather is off the table, but the alternatives still look and feel upscale, especially the available wool blend made partly from recycled material. The EX90 includes a standard third row and seats six or seven, depending on configuration, and the glass roof adds to the sense of openness.
Price Range and Best Value Trim
Model | Price |
Plus Single Motor | $76,695 |
Plus Twin Motor | $79,995 |
Plus Twin Motor Performance | $84,995 |
Ultra Twin Motor | $84,345 |
Ultra Twin Motor Performance | $89,345 |
The 2026 Volvo EX90's price range spans a fair few trims, but the Ultra is the best value because it bundles the stronger standard twin-motor powertrain with the richer feature set buyers in this segment usually want. Compared to the Plus, it gives you the 449-hp all-wheel-drive setup, and it also layers on the more upscale equipment noted for the trim, including massaging seats, 21-inch wheels, air suspension, and thicker side glass for better isolation.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Quiet and refined cabin
- Strong powertrain spread from 329 hp to 670 hp
- Improved 800-volt charging capability
- Premium interior materials and roomy three-row layout
Cons:
- Heavy reliance on the touchscreen
- Third row is best reserved for smaller passengers
- Ultra and Performance models get expensive quickly
- Some driver-assistance functions still arrive later than expected
Verdict
The 2026 Volvo EX90 looks more convincing now than it did at launch. The move to 800-volt hardware, the new single motor entry point, and the healthier outputs for the dual-motor models all make the lineup easier to justify.
It's not the cheapest way into a three-row electric SUV, and the screen-heavy cabin will not win over everyone. Even so, the EX90 feels like a well-rounded luxury EV rather than a one-trick tech showcase.
