Lights out for Senske’s highly popular dancing holiday light show
Senske Services, the formerly Kennewick-based landscaping firm, is halting its splashy holiday light display after moving out of its offices near Vista Field.
But the company will still install holiday lights for customers throughout the Tri-Cities.
A spokeswoman said the company no longer occupies the building at 410 N. Quay where it wrapped the streets and decorated the lawn each season.
For years, it’s over-the-top light display was a must-see stop on any local tour of Christmas light displays, drawing throngs of visitors for the light shows choreographed to holiday music throughout the holiday season.
Senske, now based in Dallas, Texas, is still in the holiday decor business, installing lights and other decorations for homeowners and businesses over the holidays.
“Our holiday decor business is going strong and Senske Services continues to decorate homes and businesses throughout Washington, Idaho, Utah and Colorado,” it said.
GTCR Private Equity acquired the company after an initial December 2022 investment that fueled the acquisition of nearly a dozen lawn care brands by mid-2024.
Last December, Senske had 80,000 customers in Washington, Utah, Idaho and Colorado after a decade-long acquisition spree that saw it take over 34 lawn care businesses in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana, as well as in Arizona, Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, Texas, Utah and Virginia.
Established in 1947 in Spokane by Liz and Bill Senske, the company flourished in the post-World War II years by offering pest control and lawn care services. The founders enlisted sons Bill Jr., Mike and Chris and daughters Carol and Sue to help run the firm.
Chris Senske took over in the 1980s. He made Kennewick the company headquarters, and it moved into its new offices on North Quay Street in 2002.
