It’s beginning to look a lot like Costco. Steel frame going up on 2nd Tri-Cities store
The Tri-Cities’ second Costco Wholesale is starting to look like an actual store.
Lydig Construction, contractor for the $25 million project, has poured the concrete floor and framed the 183,000-square-foot metal building.
By mid-April, the full outline of the future building was on full display at the construction site, 3125 Queensgate Drive, in Richland.
Lydig began preparing the site in November, after Costco hammered out a long-term land lease for the 28-acre site with the Washington Department of Natural Resources.
The former orchard is owned by the state and lease payments will support school construction around Washington.
The new store in Richland will be nearly 20% bigger than the existing Costco in Kennewick. The project includes a gas station and pad sites for future neighbors who want to be close to the regional shopping draw.
The project is designed by Costco’s long-time architect, MG2, which has built nearly 800 stores in 30 years.
According to MG2, it takes 110 days from the “time construction begins to the moment doors open to their members.”
The store is expected to open by late summer or early fall.
Costco does not comment on new locations until they are within three months of opening.
The list of imminent store openings currently includes locations in Florida and Texas, as well as Australia, Japan, South Korea and Sweden.
