Update: 3rd business cancels groundbreaking for $1.3M project at reinvented Tri-Cities airport neighborhood
Editor’s note: The announced groundbreaking for Columbia Point Eyecare has been canceled while the developers finalize details. The new event date will be announced.
The Port of Kennewick holds its second ground breaking in as many weeks at Vista Field, its prized new neighborhood near Columbia Center.
Cantley Vision Inc., owned by Richland optometrists Brandon Furness and Royce Barney, breaks ground on a 7,000-square-foot home for their Columbia Point Eyecare business at 10 a.m., April 22, at 6737 Azure Drive.
Its first is in Richland, at Columbia Point.
Cantley Vision is the third private business to begin construction at the former air field.
The owner of Kuki Izakaya Japanese Restaurant broke ground last fall and the owner of Blueberry Bridal plans a ground breaking ceremony at 10 a.m., April 17.
Cantley Vision will use its new home for a medical office and eye glasses store. The building will have 1,500 square feet for future tenants.
The $1.3 million project was designed by LPR Architecture and is being built by Hummel Construction & Development. The city of Kennewick issued building permits in March, when Cantley closed on the land deal with the port.
The Port of Kennewick closed Vista Field to airplanes at the end of 2013 and is reinventing the 103-acre site as a mixed-use village with residences, businesses and recreational features.
Twenty-one sites in the initial 20-acre phase were listed for sale in 2022. Eight parcels are sold or spoken for and 13 are still available.
In addition to the eye clinic, the bridal shop and the Japanese restaurant, the port has deals pending for a five-story residential project and a 300-home residential project.
