JoAnn made splashy $1M+ move to Eastern WA mall. Now, it’s closing
The new owners of JoAnn Inc., the national fabric and craft retailer based in Hudson, Ohio, will close all stores, including a Kennewick location that moved into a custom-built space at Columbia Center mall less than two years ago.
GA Group will sell all JoAnn assets after prevailing in a bankruptcy auction, according to court documents.
JoAnn’s physical stores as well as its website and mobile app will remain open and operating as going-out-of-business sales are conducted.
JoAnn Inc. and affiliated companies filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in Delaware in January, listing between $1 billion and $10 billion in both debts and assets.
JoAnn is a longtime staple of the Tri-Cities craft and sewing scene.
In July 2023, it moved to a 30,000-square-foot spot at Columbia Center mall after it spent nearly $1 million to remodel the space vacated by Sears in 2019.
The former JoAnn spot at 751 N. Columbia Center Blvd. was retooled and is now home to Natural Grocers Inc.
