Richland’s iconic Spudnuts shop to open in Kennewick and Pasco after 76 years in one town

The Spudnut Shop, Richland’s iconic bakery, is adding locations in Pasco and Kennewick.

The former will open at 3315 W. Court St. in Pasco and the latter at 5216 W. Okanogan St., in Kennewick, next to the Edison Street Food Park, north of Kamiakin High School.

The original in Richland’s Uptown Shopping Center is is not changing.

Established in 1948, The Spudnut Shop has catered to the community’s sweet tooth for generations, producing treats made with potato flour and eschewing the word “doughnut.”

It remained in the same family until longtime owner and manager Val Driver sold it in 2023. Mike Bishop and Ryan Pierson, Richland natives who left corporate jobs to run the business.

Peacock moving, expanding

Peacock Coffee Roasting Co. will move to larger quarters at Hansen Park, 910 S. Columbia Center Blvd., near West 10th in Kennewick, in November.

The move from its original quarters at The Parkway in Richland will be accomplished by a new name, “The Peacock,” signifying a major expansion of the business.

Peacock will serve as a coffee shop by day and become a lounge and bar by evening, serving beer, wine, spirits and a variety of food.

“The move to Hansen Park and our transformation into The Peacock will allow us to better serve our loyal customers and attract new ones by providing an inviting space that evolves throughout the day,” Thomas Kalmbach, owner said in a news release announcing the move.

Sage Brewing closed its Hansen Park taproom in 2023. Owner Tyson Crudup sold the remaining Pasco business, 8425 Chapel Hill Blvd., in August to two couples.

Fiiz-y Wishes in Richland

Fiiz Drinks, the new soda fountain in Richland’s Duportail district, is raising money to fulfill wishes of ill children in Benton and Franklin counties throughout the month.

Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington reports it granted wishes to 18 children in the Tri-Cities last year and currently has 29 kids waiting for their wishes to be fulfilled.

Tyler and Aspen Tidwell and Ranae and Matt Risk opened Washington’s first Fiiz location this summer, at 3159 Duportail St., near Numerica Credit Union.

Spotlight finds Stick + Stone

Richland restaurant Stick + Stone and its owner, Talon Yager, will host a film crew from America’s Best Restaurants from 9 a.m.-noon, Sept. 18, at 3027 Duportail St.

The restaurant features Neopolitan-stule wood-fired pizza in addition to starters, salads and an extensive beer and wine selection.

Yager, who also co-owns Rays Golden Lion after reviving it in Richland, helped launch Stick + Stone in 2016, purchased the business in 2020.

America’s Best Restaurants is a media and marketing program that brings attention to local, independently-owned restaurants. It will feature Stick + Stone on its social media channels at an unspecified future date.
