Thrift shop taking over old Basin Department Store + National Ice Cream Day

A new store has found a home at the site of an iconic downtown Kennewick business.

New Beginnings Thrift Store, which benefits local charities, is taking over the former Basin Department Store spot, 111 W. First Ave.

The department store closed after owner Stuart Logg was not able to find a buyer to continue the business.

The original New Beginnings is at 1016 Lee Blvd. in Richland that supports YouMedical and DVS will remain open.

The Kennewick store, which will open in early August, will benefit Mirror Ministries and an as-yet undisclosed second organization.

Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream celebrates its 18th anniversary and National Ice Cream Day with 18% off deals on purchases on July 18.

The Utah-based company makes made-to-order ice cream flash frozen with liquid nitrogen. The crowd-pleasing process releases clouds of fog and produces ice cream in less than a minute. The Kennewick location opened in February 2022.

Customers choose a base with options such as cream, reduced fat, yogurt, vegan or sugar free, then select from 35+ flavors as well as mix-ins such as candy, nuts and fruit. A blast of liquid nitrogen transforms the concoction into a frozen dessert.

Sub Zero Kennewick is at 321 N. Columbia Center Blvd, south of the mall.

Wake Up Call grand opening

Wake Up Call celebrates the acquisition of 14 former Black Rock Coffee Bar (formerly Roasters) locations in the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla with a grand opening deals all week.

The celebration began Monday and continues with a buy-one-get-one-free teal offer on Tuesday, free stickers on Wednesday, buy one get one free MadHatter deals on Thursday and $3 signature drink deals on Friday.

Throughout the week, customers will be entered in a drawing to win a coffee per day for a year.

Wake Up Call announced it was taking over the Tri-City chain in May.

Pasco RV dealers rebrand

Two Pasco RV dealerships are now officially part of the growing Blue Compass RV brand.

Blue Compass, with more than 100 dealerships in 30 states, rolled out the name and branding across the chain, including in Pasco. The two dealerships are at 1002 N. 28th Ave. and at 1510 N. Commercial Ave.

New owner for Richland Sylvan Learning

CJ Rodriguez is the new owner of Richland Sylvan learning, the local franchise of the K-12 learning franchise for students in grades K-12.

Rodriguez is a hairstylist with two accounting degrees who went back to school to become a teacher.

She is also a Sylvan parent who turned to the program to help her daughter when she saw the effects the pandemic were having on students.
