Tri-Cities store popular with bargain shoppers closing. Coronavirus blamed
The Tuesday Morning store selling discounted home decor and gift items in Kennewick will be closing permanently.
The corporate owner is blaming the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tuesday Morning Corp. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization on May 27, saying it planned to close 230 of its 687 stores.
“Prior to the pandemic, we were gaining momentum in our merchant organization, growing our vendor base and improving brands, assortment and value for our customers, while investing in our technology and corporate leadership team,” said chief executive Steve Becker then.
But not being able to open stores in April and May because of the coronavirus put the company in a financial position that could only be addressed through bankruptcy, he said.
The Kennewick store was not among the 132 stores targeted at the end of May for the first phase of closure.
But the company has now announced with signs in the windows of the store on 7411 W. Canal Drive and on its website that the store is closing. A liquidation sale has begun.
It gives no date for the closure, saying only that it will be soon.
Tuesday Morning sells discounted closeout merchandise, including home decor; bedding, bath and kitchen items; luggage; craft supplies; seasonal decorations and gift items.
The store is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
