AgriNorthwest, local dairy to buy Boardman Tree Farm
Trees are coming down on an Oregon farm to make way for new owners, who plan to use the land for dairy cows and irrigated crops.
The East Oregonian reports that GreenWood Resources has made an agreement to sell the Boardman Tree Farm to the Tri-City-based farm operator AgriNorthwest.
Part of the 25,000-acre tree farm has already been sold to a dairy that will raise about 8,000 cows on the land. The rest of the property will go to AgriNorthwest to grow potatoes and other crops.
The deal is expected to close soon.
GreenWood Resources is continuing to harvest the remaining trees. The wood is sold to become decorative plywood, pulp and biofuel.
GreenWood executive Don Rice says they were not actively trying to sell the property but AgriNorthwest approached them with a fair offer.
