Faith | Harvest kindness even when what you sow, you may never reap
Harvesting kindness is a big reminder of the saying, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
What we focus our attention on is what shows up in our life. If we want to harvest kindness in our life, we are not going to do it unless we ourselves start out by being kind.
Here is a question: If we are sending out kindness, do we always get that kindness back?
Not necessarily, in my opinion, but kindness practiced leads to higher vibrations on the planet, and the more people that practice it, the higher the vibration.
Mother Teresa’s “Do It Anyway” poem addresses the idea of being kind always:
“People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered; Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God; It was never between you and them anyway.”
So being kind and helping others is not about “expecting” something in return, but amazingly enough, the boomerang effect usually does bring the kindness back.
Science of Mind teaches us that we are all one, one with God, one with each other, and one with the planet.
When we are one with each other we help each other when help is needed; we listen with a loving heart when someone is in the need of sharing; we allow ourselves to be nurtured as much as we nurture others.
Each of us is an incredible gift from God, meant to share our gifts with one another, to be kind and caring and giving. When we send that out, we may never get the same in return, but if we never send it out we will never have it returned.
Before we can help others, we must first help ourselves to be kind, loving, peaceful and prosperous. If that’s hard to do, then healing may be the answer.
In Science of Mind, we call affirmative prayer a treatment. Why? Because if we aren’t happy, healthy, wealthy, loving and peaceful then we need the affirmative prayer to remember the truth of ourselves— that we are all perfect, whole and complete just as we are. It is a Mind Body connection.
What we focus our attention on, is what shows up in our life.
If we want to harvest kindness in our life, we are not going to do it unless we ourselves start out by being kind.
As the Dali Lama says, “Our job in life is to help others, and if we can’t help them, at least do nothing to harm them.”
