Faith | In 2022 heavenly help can come in surprising ways
Do you ever worry about how to pay the bills, earn enough money, or plan for a sound financial future?
If so, there’s heavenly help at hand that can come in surprising ways.
Years ago, I made a career change that produced little income for my family. I had prayed for many years to find the right time to start this new work, which was about ministering to others, and I was happier than ever in it.
But how to pay the bills was becoming a major concern.
I began to doubt the wisdom of my choice. Maybe I had made the change prematurely? I wondered. Maybe I should return to my old job which paid well?
I fretted. What was I to do?
I knew from my study of the Bible that God gives us everything we need to follow through with a God-inspired idea, and when we seek to do God’s will we prosper.
As Jesus Christ taught, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matt 6:33).
I believed that my career change was God-inspired, and much spiritual good would result from it, but I couldn’t see how this new work was going to translate into a sound financial future.
Then God spoke to me in the most unexpected way.
Early one Saturday morning, our doorbell rang. I opened the door and standing in front of me was a woman clenching two fistfuls of cash. She thrust the cash into my arms and said, “Here, God told me to do this.”
She turned and left. Stunned, I staggered a bit back into the house, plunked the cash onto the dining room table, and reached out to God to understand what had happened.
As I prayerfully listened, I realized that God was sending me a message through this woman’s actions. She owed me nothing, appeared out of nowhere, and showered me with a generous blessing.
I interpreted this as God telling me to quit worrying about our financial future.
I thought about the many years I had spent in prayer seeking to understand what my right work on Earth was to be, and how inspired I was with my new job. It became apparent that through this woman’s deed, God was telling me to “Trust the prayer!”
I needed to quit second-guessing God and trust divine love’s ability to provide for my family, perhaps in ways I could never foresee or plan myself.
I took the message to heart and ceased worrying about our financial horizon. I focused on doing my work well, and trusted that the all-knowing, all-wise mind of God would give the inspiration, direction, and supply my family needed when we needed it.
This trust paid off, for over time, my career change proved to be a blessed choice. Appropriate income followed, and my family has thrived.
I have been grateful to see that heavenly help is always at hand, and as attested above, can sometimes appear in the most surprising and unexpected of ways.
