Opening Lead: Ace of clubs
I was on vacation in Central Oregon and called an old friend for a bridge game. We played at the Redmond Bridge Club in a monthly championship. While filling out the convention card, Rosemary told me that her preempts were “Undisciplined!”
The Bidding: Sure enough, she started the first board with a 2S bid with six to the ten! The opponents stopped short of game and we found ourselves defending 3H.
The Play: Declarer was up against a trump stack and somehow managed to lose seven tricks.
What Happened? Down three was a top board because all the other declarers were in no-trump and making two or three. This helped us to a 65% game to win the event by a narrow margin. I may start using light preempts myself!
Bridge Futures: The Richland Duplicate Bridge Club (RDBC) has a game at the Richland Community Center at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays. RDBC also plays on the first, third, and fifth Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Old Country Buffet, 6821 W. Canal Dr., Kennewick, WA. Call Tom Edwards at 946-1824 for details.
