4 new sweet & savory Tri-Cities business openings
Coffee fans can rejoice this week.
Not only is Ethos Bakery & Cafe opening its second location Friday, but the new Starbucks drive-thru is open at Columbia Center mall and there’s a startup espresso spot that delivers to your home or office.
And if you’re looking for something with more of a kick, a cider taproom unlocks its doors next week in Richland.
▪ Ethos Bakery & Cafe is opening its second cafe this week. The bakery on Keene Road is branching out to The Parkway in Richland on Oct. 23.
Two years ago, celebrity chef Guy Fieri was in the Tri-Cities filming for his popular TV show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.”
He featured the savory and sweet offerings of Ethos’ chef and co-owner Angela Kora.
The new Ethos in Richland location will be a full-scale coffee shop with indoor and outside seating and will serve pastries and bread baked at its Keene Road kitchen.
Grab-and-go soups and sandwiches are also planned.
▪ Starbucks just opened its newest Tri-Cities location in the parking lot of Columbia Center mall on Columbia Center Boulevard at Canal Drive.
The store has a drive-thru and will employ about 15 to 20 people, said a Starbucks spokesperson.
Hours are 4:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Hogback Development Co. of Yakima bought the Kennewick site for $1.1 million in December 2019. Construction on the three-tenant building was completed in July.
In addition to Starbucks, the building also is expected to house a MOD Pizza. And a 2,500-square-foot space still is listed as available for rent on Hogback’s website.
While previously there was some discussion about Habit Burger leasing the spot, a spokesperson for Hogback could not be reached for confirmation.
▪ Tri-Cities Cider House will be serving up pints to the public starting next week.
The taphouse at 1082 George Washington Way is a few doors down from the new Porter’s Real Barbecue. It will feature hard ciders on tap and in bottles and cans. The taphouse will have 15 to 20 ciders on tap when fully up and running. Some beers and wine will be available as well.
No food is provided but it can be brought in. Owner Nathan Steele is working on finalizing a food service permit to allow inside seating, which will fit about 40 people when at full capacity. Only 21 and older are permitted.
In meantime, there are about two dozen seats outside with patio heaters in the works as winter arrives.
“It’s the culmination of dreams of a kid coming to life,” Steele told the Herald earlier this summer.
Steele held a soft grand opening this week for club members and will tentatively be open 2 to 10 p.m. starting Oct. 26.
▪ Kennewick workers needing a fix of caffeine can have the coffee delivered free.
Twisters Espresso opened last week at the Red Mountain Kitchen, 212 W. Kennewick Ave., with specialties like cinnamon roll lattes and Sunrise Redbulls with homemade strawberry syrup.
With a five drink or $25 minimum order, owners Hailey Blair or Main Lopez will deliver within Kennewick — and there’s no charge if delivered to a business.
Drinks can be paid for separately on joint office orders with cash or card upon delivery.
The fee to deliver to a home varies from $2 to $8 depending on location. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Orders also can be picked up curbside at Red Mountain Kitchen downtown.
To order, message through Twisters Espresso Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter or call 509-759-8042. For general information, email twistersespresso@gmail.com.
