Dining alfresco. Many Tri-Cities restaurants reopen with outdoor seating

Tri-Cities restaurants are once again open for sit-down dining, as long as the table are outside.

Eatery owners have been scrambling to make adjustments after three months of being allowed to offer only takeout and delivery options.

Washington State Secretary of Health John Wiesman approved a modified Phase 1 for Benton and Franklin counties that includes restaurant outdoor seating at 50 percent of its outside capacity.

And city officials are also hurrying to find a way to allow more eateries to take advantage of the modified opening rules.

On Monday, the Pasco City Council approved a plan allowing restaurants to expand their outdoor seating by using up to 50 percent of their off-street parking next to their buildings for additional seating, with the exception of handicapped parking.

The Kennewick and Richland city councils are considering similar measures at their meetings Tuesday night.
