Drive-up asparagus is back. And there’s purple asparagus for a cause

Mid-Columbia residents may be growing tired of cooking while staying at home during the coronavirus outbreak. Try out these fresh asparagus options.

Purple asparagus for Alzheimer’s

While asparagus is in season and the green stalks are plentiful throughout the Mid-Columbia, consider buying purple asparagus for a cause.

Larsen Farms in Pasco is selling the sweeter, nuttier variety to raise money for Alzheimer’s research.

This is the second year that the farm, operated by brothers Bart and Gary Larsen, and joined by sister Linda Larsen-King are holding their “Purple Angel Asparagus Fundraiser” to support their Walk to End Alzheimer’s walk team for the Alzheimer’s Association.

The siblings’ parents both died from Alzheimer’s disease, with their mother dying in February.

Orders are being taken through May, and only pre-orders are being accepted to help maintain social distancing during COVID-19. A drive-thru pickup will be in West Richland.

The purple asparagus fresh-cut daily is being sold for $2 per pound with a 5 pound minimum, and sold in 5 pound increments.

To place an order, call 509-552-7026. Payment options and exact pickup location will be given at the time of order. Delivery can be arranged if volunteers are available.

Asparagus festival

The popularity of CG Public House’s first drive-thru asparagus festival has kept the momentum going.

The Kennewick restaurant will holding another festival in their parking lot at 9221 W. Clearwater Ave. from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, and every Saturday while Washington’s coronavirus stay home order remains in place.

Alongside asparagus dishes, vendors will be selling cupcakes, chocolates, fresh-baked bread and bouquets of flowers.

White Glove Weddings Bridal Bar will be selling homemade masks.

Speaking of masks — all vendors will be wearing masks and customers will be asked to remain in their vehicles as they place their orders.

Customers can compete for a $100 gift basket by decorating their vehicles.
