Savor asparagus season in Tri-Cities — without ever leaving your car

A Kennewick restaurant is giving asparagus lovers a chance to celebrate a seasonal favorite and still keep a safe distance.

Whether you’re craving deep-fried asparagus, cream of asparagus soup or raw spears ready for your at-home culinary creation, drivers can cruise through the parking lot for a chance to visit vendors via your driver’s seat.

And don’t forget your kit for making your quarantinis — strawberry lemon drops.

CG Public House Public House & Catering in Kennewick plans the drive-up asparagus festival 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in its parking lot at 9221 W. Clearwater Ave.

Asparagus dishes, desserts, liquor kits and wine by the bottle will be available to go.

Drivers will be asked to stay in their vehicles to maintain social distancing guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Kyle Simmons, CG’s Public House’s owner and director of operations, originally crafted the idea of liquor kits to unload inventory during Washington’s COVID-19 stay-home order.

Now, they are so popular he is keeping them in stock in the restaurant.

During the food fest, quarantinis, margaritas, bloody marys and mimosas will be available. Each kit comes with a mixer, alcohol, recipe card — and a bonus roll of toilet paper.

In addition to the star vegetable of the show from Middleton Six Sons Farms in Pasco, vendors will include Frost Me Sweet Bakery & Bistro, Great Harvest Bread Co., Baum’s House of Chocolate’s and Kennewick Flower Shop.

Trucks and Auto Auction in Pasco that will be showcasing classic cars set for auction this fall.

Trucks and Auto also will be upping the ante by holding a “Decorate Your Car Contest.”

The winner will receive a basket filled with games, movies, certificates and candy. Organizers will take pictures and names, and the winner will be announced on Trucks and Auto’s Facebook page as well as CG Public House Facebook’s page.

Simmons says if the food festival is popular and the stay-home order is extended beyond May 4, the restaurant will be looking at holding weekly drive-through food events and farmers markets.
