Cancer-fighting food: 5 Kennewick classes teach you how to cook them and why

You can learn about the common produce with cancer-fighting properties at five classes offered by the Tri-Cities Cancer Center in 2020.

Chef Kyle Thornhill of Professional Food Services will teach cooking, and Dr. Lindsey Josephson, a Lourdes Health dietitian and Tri-Cities Cancer Center naturopathic physician, will discuss the cancer-fighting properties of the food prepared.

All classes this year will be in partnership with Red Mountain Kitchen, and classes will be there at 212 W. Kennewick Ave., Kennewick.

Each participant can take their dish home or enjoy it there.

The first class is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13. Classes continue on April 16, June 10, Aug. 12 and Oct. 14 at the same time and location.

Each class costs $50, with supplies and an apron provided. Registration is required at tccancer.org/cuisine or by calling 509-737-3413.

Also, in September, Tri-City restaurants will be showing off their culinary skills as they compete for “Cancer Crushing Restaurant of the Year.”

Participants will sample the best in healthy cuisine, using cancer-fighting foods, and vote for their favorites.

Restaurants will then provide a Cancer Crushing menu item for October with proceeds going to the cancer center foundation.

The event is Sept. 12. Cost is $75 per person, including food, wine and a “Cancer Fighting Kitchen” cookbook.

Register by calling 509-737-3413.
