Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale Confirmed for Iconic Crime Film Sequel

Negotiations have been ongoing for the better part of the last year, but movie fans are finally getting a sequel to an all-time classic crime film directed by Michael Mann.

Two of the most decorated actors in Hollywood, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale, are set to join forces in "Heat 2," which is scheduled to begin shooting in November, according to The Wrap.

This is a sequel to the 1995 film "Heat," which starred two other legends, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.

DiCaprio is expected to play Chris Shiherlis, the role portrayed by Val Kilmer in the original film, while Bale is set to take on Pacino's character, Vincent Hanna, a LAPD robbery homicide detective.

At this stage, Stephen Graham is expected to be cast as Neil McCauley, the role originally played by De Niro. In a potential villain role, Adam Driver is reportedly in "deep negotiations."

As for the female lead, Sharlene, played by Ashley Judd in 1995, several A-list actresses are said to be interested in the project.

Drew Taylor of The Wrap noted that Mann's idea for "Heat" was, interestingly enough, based on a 1989 TV project called "L.A. Takedown," which he wrote and directed. It later aired as a movie after not being picked up as a series. Scott Plank and Alex McArthur played characters that inspired both De Niro and Pacino's roles.

The upcoming project is set to be produced by Amazon MGM Studios, and it will mark DiCaprio's first film since the Oscar-winning "One Battle After Another," as well as "What Happens at Night," which he shot earlier this year for Martin Scorsese.

As for Bale, his last film was "The Bride" for Warner Bros. Before "Heat 2," he will also appear in "Madden," directed by David O. Russell.
