Electronic Arts Reportedly Begins Mass Layoffs, Ahead of Massive $55 Billion Sale
In 2026, the video game industry stands as the largest entertainment industry in the history of the world, and, despite many companies making record profits, the industry remains in a volatile state, with employees being let go virtually every month. Now, one of the industry's largest publishers, Electronic Arts, is reportedly undergoing a series of mass layoffs.
In a new report from Kotaku, the media outlet has investigated the layoffs and has seemingly discovered the layoffs through "sources aware of the situation, as well as 12 separate public postings from individuals impacted by the layoffs." The layoffs are estimated to impact the company's recruitment, customer support, trust and safety, and IT teams at the company, according to Kotaku.
Kotaku also stated in its report that it has discovered several online job postings from former employees in remote roles, and ones located at EA's office Hyderabad, India.
Reportedly, an email was sent out to EA's Fan Care team by a development head, and was viewed by Kotaku. The email stated, "As part of this evolution, we are making or proposing to make changes to some roles, creating new roles, and moving certain work to different teams, locations, or service partners."
This would be far from the first round of layoffs from EA. Earlier this year, the company eliminated positions on the development team for both Battlefield 6 and Skate.
Additionally, EA is in the process of being sold to a group of companies of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake Partners, and Affinity Partners. Affinity Partners was founded by Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. The deal is estimated to be worth $55 billion, according to Kotaku.
EA recently reported a revenue of $7.531 billion for its 2026 fiscal year.
Kotaku reached out for comment on the layoffs, and EA declined to provide a statement.
