One Golden Retriever Is Polite, the Other Has Different Priorities

Some dogs take snack time very seriously. It doesn't matter that there are plenty of treats to go around-when the goodies come out, all logic seems to disappear. At least that's how it can feel when Mom starts handing them out.

Golden Retrievers are known for their easygoing, friendly personalities. Most of the time, they're happy-go-lucky pups who don't get worked up about anything. I mean, sure, they'll get excited about treats, but generally they manage to keep their composure.

At least that's true for Leia. Her sister Daisy, on the other hand, approaches snack time with a bit more urgency.

In a recent TikTok video, Mom demonstrated the very different styles her two Golden Retrievers have when taking their treats, and let's just say she may have been slightly concerned about the safety of her fingers. Leia waits patiently for her turn, gently opening her mouth and carefully taking the Cheeto from Mom's hand like the polite lady she is.

Meanwhile, Daisy spends the entire time building up her anticipation. When her turn arrives, all thoughts of manners seem to go out the window. She jumps up toward her mom's hand with the enthusiasm of a dog who hasn't eaten in days. The Golden Retriever was determined to secure her Cheeto before it somehow disappeared.

OK, maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but Daisy definitely wasn't wasting any time. Thankfully, Mom managed to pull her fingers away just in time, and both pups got their treats. One simply chose a much more chaotic approach than the other.

Teaching Your Dog To Take Treats Gently

Experts at PetSmart recommend lowering the treat near your dog's mouth and delivering it directly rather than holding it above their head. This can help reduce grabbing, jumping, and overexcited treat-taking behavior. With a little practice, most pups learn that being gentle gets them the snack just as quickly.

Teaching your dog to take treats gently is an important skill because even friendly pups can accidentally nip a finger when they're excited. Clearly, Daisy needs more practice!
