John Mulaney Has Just Done What No Comedian Has Ever Done Before
Wrigley Field has over 40,000 seats, and John Mulaney has sold out every seat.
Mulaney became the first comedian to headline at the famous stadium, Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. He has broken another record: Mulaney is the first comedian ever to sell out the stadium.
Mulaney was born and raised in Chicago and is a lifelong Cubs fan. He will now join a small club of artists who have taken the stage at Wrigley, which includes Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen. He is the first comedian on the list. Tyler Childers and Noah Kahan will perform at Wrigley in the week following Mulaney's show.
The Wrigley Field show is one stop on Mulaney's current John Mulaney: Mister Whatever tour. The performance will be on Saturday, July 11. His next stop will be in Massachusetts.
Mulaney told Deadline, "I'm honored to stand on the same field where I saw Mark Grace rip cigarettes during games, and yell all of my jokes." Grace spent 13 seasons with the Cubs from 1988-2000 before joining the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks won the World Series the first year he joined.
Wrigley Field is home to the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Chicago has two baseball teams, the Cubs and the White Sox; however, the Sox are in the American League and will only face the Cubs during the Crosstown Classics or if both teams make it to the World Series. The Cubs have not been to a World Series since 2016, and the White Sox have not been since 2005.
The writer and comedian has won four Emmys, including one for his work on SNL50: The Anniversary Special. Mister Whatever is the sixth national comedy tour. Besides the tour, Mulaney is also an actor. He will be voicing Spider-Ham in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which will premiere in 2027. He is also starring alongside Nicholas Cage in Madden this year as Trip Hawkins, the founder of EA.
