Netflix Has Had Three of the 'Saddest' Show Cancellations This Year
In 2026, every major network and streaming service has had to make the tough decision to cancel shows. In total, there have been dozens of cancellations across all of the major cable and streaming platforms through the first five-plus months of the year.
On Monday, Decider broke down 12 of the "saddest" cancellations for TV fans so far in 2026. Three of the shows were Netflix series that will come to an end soon.
Here's a look at each one and some of the reasons behind the decisions to end them.
The Lincoln Lawyer
Based on the books of Michael Connelly, The Lincoln Lawyer premiered in 2022 and has been a regular presence among the Netflix Top 10 ever since, earning over 171 million views since 2023.
The show stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, an idealistic defense attorney in Los Angeles. In January, Netflix announced it was renewing The Lincoln Lawyer for a fifth season, but unfortunately it would be its last.
"All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us. From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion," series developer Ted Humphrey and co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez said in a statement.
Filming for Season 5 began in March.
The Night Agent
Netflix confirmed in May that the upcoming fourth season of The Night Agent would be the final one. Since debuting on the platform in March 2023, the action thriller starring Gabriel Basso has logged quality ratings, though there was a concerning drop-off over the last two seasons.
Fans will still have one final chance to see Basso portray FBI agent Peter Sutherland.
"Ever since the initial success of The Night Agent, I've been obsessed with eventually delivering a proper and thrilling conclusion to the show and to Peter Sutherland's journey," creator Shawn Ryan said in a statement.
"I'm so grateful to Netflix and Sony Pictures Television for partnering with me on The Night Agent and for giving us the space to deliver a definitive final season to our worldwide legion of fans," Ryan added. "We are hard at work to complete our story and to make our final season one our fans will never forget."
Emily in Paris
The first season of Emily in Paris premiered on Netflix in October 2020, just as the world was coming out of the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Audiences have diligently watched American communications pro Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) throughout her journey in France; Emily in Paris has been one of Netflix's most successful shows.
Created by Darren Star of Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place and Sex and the City fame, Emily in Paris will conclude with Season 6.
"Season 6 will bring you everything you love about the show and serve as the final chapter in Emily's adventure of a lifetime," Collins said in a statement in May. "Our entire cast and crew are pouring our hearts into making this a fantastic farewell season, which we're now filming. I can't wait for all of the magic ahead, and to celebrate our final season with you in the most chic way yet."
