Serena and Venus Williams to Compete in Ladies' Doubles at Wimbledon 2026, Fans React

Serena Williams is back at Wimbledon, and the tennis world has been talking about it all Tuesday morning.

A short time ago, the official X/Twitter account for the legendary tournament confirmed that the Williams sisters will be playing in the Ladies' Doubles competition later this summer. Venus and Serena Williams have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together, including six at Wimbledon, most recently in 2016.

"Back together, at Wimbledon. Serena and Venus Williams will compete in the Ladies' Doubles at The Championships 2026," the tweet reads.

Tennis fans react

Serena Williams recently made her return to competitive tennis after a four-year hiatus, while Venus has been playing sporadically in recent years.

Following the news of their return Tuesday, many tennis fans have been celebrating.

"Serena and Venus back at Wimbledon in the doubles draw. The Centre Court box just remembered what stress is," one fan wrote.

"Greatest doubles duo of all time returning to the place where they won 6 titles together… Wimbledon just got 1000x better. Thank you for this moment," a second fan added.

"The queens are back," a third person chimed in.

Others are more skeptical though.

"Serena has got to play singles surely. Not coming back for just doubles. She's not going to get past 1st round with Venus," one person noted.

"It's just a matter of money and marketing. They'll be out of the tournament very quickly," a second person said.

The Ladies' Doubles competition at this year's Wimbledon will begin July 2.

Back in action

Serena Williams made her tennis return at the 2026 HSBC Championships in London earlier this month, winning her first doubles match alongside 19-year-old Victoria Mboko of Canada.

"I don't know. I had nothing better to do, I got tired of sitting at home. My kids are out of school for the summer, so why not?" Williams said after her first match back. "I never got to play here, it was always just the men. It feels really special to play somewhere so iconic."

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion would see her tournament run end in the quarterfinals, as she and Mboko fell to Laura Siegemund of Germany and Canada's Leylah Fernandez. Williams is also slated to compete in the upcoming Berlin Tennis Open.
