Stone City Arts Festival happening Saturday in Tenino
Tenino is known colloquially as the "Stone City" due to the area's sandstone quarries in South Thurston County - with one of those quarries now serving as the city's public pool.
The second annual Stone City Art Festival is happening this weekend in downtown Tenino, according to a Tenino Arts news release.
"The festival is free and open to the public, inviting residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy a day of artistic expression, live entertainment, delicious food and family-friendly activities," the release stated.
Tenino Arts has partnered with the Tenino Stone Carvers Guild to host the festival, which is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with artisan vendors from throughout the Pacific Northwest at Sussex Avenue West and Olympia Street North in Tenino.
Food includes hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs and chicken along with sides such as potato salad and macaroni and cheese from Sugar's Catering and drinks from South Bay Coffee.
Aside from the vendors, carved stone sculptures from both the Tenino Stone Carvers Guild and the Northwest Stone Sculpture Association will be on display.
Additionally, the Tenino Farmers Market will hold its annual Kids Day coinciding with the event in downtown Tenino. The farmers market, arts and crafts market, sculpture displays and recreational games such as cornhole will be available throughout the morning and early afternoon.
Live music will be performed by Ross Robinson and Charles W. Valentine, a blues duo, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Shamrock (Irish/Celtic) Band will play the last hour.
The Tenino Arts Free Little Art Gallery will be available as well, where community members can take art, leave art or just appreciate art from others.
A total of 28 artisan vendors will be on hand, including; Botanica Ceramica; Carrier Candles; Celestial Solstice Soaps; Color Me Loved, LLC; Curiosa Art Studio; Dot Depot by Ro; Dreams Lead To Beautiful Destinations; Gaean Allusions Pottery; Glass & Stone Art; Glorious Colors by Annie; Jewels Epoxy; Just Wood Bowls; Kim L Designs; LE Creations; LoveStrung Creations; Moon Stone Designs; Of Water Wind and Woods; One Piece Whittling; Paulie Rollins; Philbrook Handcrafted; PJ Howell; Rainy Dawn in April; Roundwood Ltd.; Serenity Springs Handcrafted Soap & Skincare; Spada Creation; The Cozy Pup Crochet; Triple H Family Farm; and Wild and Sweet Chocolate.
