American Hustle Leaving Netflix on July 1: Last Chance to Stream Christian Bale's Hit

Netflix will be making plenty of changes to its streaming library in July, with dozens of movies coming and going. One of the films on its way out is the 2013 black comedy crime hit American Hustle.

Released on Dec. 13, 2013, American Hustle earned praise from audiences and critics alike. The David O. Russell-directed flick, which stars Christian Bale, Amy Adams, wound up grossing over $251 million worldwide against only a $40 million budget.

When is American Hustle leaving Netflix?

According to What's on Netflix's Kasey Moore, American Hustle will exit the app on July 1, meaning June 30 is the last day for audiences to stream the movie.

American Hustle is one of several high-profile films leaving Netflix on July 1, with others including Bohemian Rhapsody, Hellboy and Sabotage.

American Hustle has a star-studded cast

Bale and Adams star as Irving Rosenfeld and Sydney Prosser, late 1970s con artists who are forced by FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper) to perform sting operations on corrupt politicians, including Carmine Polito (Jeremy Renner), the mayor of Camden, New Jersey.

Jennifer Lawrence, Louis C.K., Jack Huston, Michael Pena, Shea Whigham, Paul Herman and Robert DeNiro also have prominent roles.

American Hustle received 10 Academy Award nominations, though it did not win any categories. The film fared better at the Golden Globes, winning for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, with Adams and Jennifer winning Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture, respectively.

Critics loved it

Andrew O'Hehir of Salon gave American Hustlea stellar review, calling it "a work of tremendous confidence and dazzling showmanship that may just be a delirious movie-as-drug-high or may, if you choose to read it this way, contain a level of commentary about the nature of America and the illusioneering of Hollywood."

Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Timeswas also impressed, saying American Hustle was "the best time I've had at the movies all year." TIME Magazine's Richard Corliss also gave the film high praise.

Currently, American Hustle has a 92% approval rating ("Certified Fresh") on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a 90% mark ("Universal Acclaim") on Metacritic and a 7.2/10 grade on IMDb.
