Tim Allen Reflects on 30 Years of Toy Story Ahead of Toy Story 5 Release
Few cinematic partnerships have stood the test of time quite like Buzz Lightyear and Woody. For over three decades, Tim Allen and Tom Hanks have voiced the legendary duo, anchoring a multi-billion-dollar franchise that completely revolutionized modern animation.
With Toy Story 5 rapidly approaching its exclusive theatrical release and the press tour engine runs hot, Tim Allen took to X to share his musings on his time with the franchise.
"We Look Like Our Own Children"
Reflecting on the sheer longevity of the franchise, Allen shared a striking comparison between a classic throwback photo from the 1995 original film and the present day on his X account.
"Wow time flys, we look like our own children at the Toy Story 1 image," Allen shared in a candid tweet. "The aging Buzz and Woody currently in London telling wonderful fans all about the new Toy Story 5 coming June 19. 'To infinity and beyond!'"

He's not the only one feeling the passage of time, either. Fans commenting on the post were equally stunned at how much time has passed and the signs of aging that have crept in, and sharing their love for the movie, with one user commenting, "It's so weird to watch a movie when I was in my teens & now my 15 & 8 year old kids are watching the same movies! That just tells ya how great the Toy Story series is!"
The Toys Meet Modern Tech
While Allen and Hanks are looking back at their own history, the actual plot of Toy Story 5 is forcing the famous playthings to face a terrifying modern future. Directed by franchise veteran Andrew Stanton, the upcoming sequel tackles a theme every modern parent can relate to: Toy meets Tech.
In the new film, the toys' owner, Bonnie, is now eight years old and has completely checked out of traditional playtime. Instead, she has become utterly obsessed with her new favorite gadget-a creepy, AI-powered kid's tablet named Lilypad (voiced by The Morning Show breakout Greta Lee).
With Bonnie constantly glued to a screen, the toys' jobs become exponentially harder. Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the bedroom gang are forced to go head-to-head with digital electronics just to stay relevant.
Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19.
